Home Choice European Oak 180mm Brushed & Oiled Engineered Flooring is a stunning natural flooring offering all the authentic characteristics you would expect of a real wood. Its nature grade offers plenty of natural rings and knots of all sizes, filled and finished, along with sapwood, mineral streaks and colour variation. The surface of the grain is brushed prior to applying the finishing oil to enhance the grain structure and offer an authentic touch.

Each board is 180mm wide, 14mm thick with a 2.5mm oak hardwood wear layer and comes in standard lengths of 1100mm. As a three-ply floor the softwood core is supported by a stabilising board and the hardwood surface layer. Bevelled edges on all four sides add definition to each board beautifully depicting each pieces individuality. For ease of installation the flooring utilises a simple click system making the product suitable for DIY or experienced installers. Home Choice European Oak 180mm Brushed & Oiled Engineered Flooring Installation Guide

Engineered floors are very dimensionally stable allowing them to be installed over most types of sub floors. They are suitable for all areas of the house except bathrooms and wet areas. They are also suitable for use over under floor heating. Due to their stability they only need acclimatising for 48 hours, to correctly acclimatise your engineered floor it should be left in the room it is going to be fitted in at normal room temperature.

Home Choice European Oak 180mm Brushed & Oiled Engineered Flooring has a click installation system and can be installed as a floating floor which is the most common and DIY friendly installation method because it is the easiest and the fastest to do, can be installed over any type of subfloor and it does not require any special skills or prior experience in installing floors as the floors just clicks together with no need for any glue.

All floating flooring installations must use an approved underlay. Over a concrete subfloor you will need to use a underlay which has a built in vapour barrier like Cushion Plus White Underlay, while over a wooden subfloor you can use the Cushion Standard White Underlay. For installations over under floor heating we recommend using Cushion Heat Flow underlay. Superior underlays like Cushion Ultra Silver Underlay and Cushion Premium Black Underlay can be used to give better support to your new flooring which prolongs the life and also aids during installation by removing some minor imperfections from the sub-floor. Also for improved noise reduction we recommend the Cushion Acoustic Pro Underlay, bringing peace and quiet to the room.

Each board has a click profile on all four sides to join the boards together simply insert the tongue into the groove at a high angle and then push the board down; the boards will then click together.

You will need to leave a 10mm expansion gap around the perimeter of the room. To maintain this gap during installation spacers are provided in the installation kits (purchased separately).

After you have installed the floor you can cover this expansion gap with scotia / beading or you can replace you old skirting boards with new ones, this gives a much more professional finish. The 10mm expansion gap also needs to be left in doorways where the floor follows through from one room to another; we have a full range of door profiles available to match your floor.

The above is a brief guideline on the installation of engineered flooring; always refer to the manufactures installation guidelines contained within packs of the flooring or visit out Flooring Manufacture Installation Guides

Home Choice European Oak 180mm Brushed & Oiled Engineered Flooring Maintenance Flooring Guide

In order to ensure lasting satisfaction from your new oil finished floor, it is important to correctly care for the floor from the off, starting immediately after installation. With the right care, the oiled floor will become increasingly easy to clean and more hard wearing over time. This is because the recommended soap used to clean the floor, actually coats it with an invisible film, providing additional protection and thus making the floor more resistant to dirt. The floor can also be re-oiled as part of a regular maintenance program thus ensuring a lifetime of use and enjoyment.

After-Installation Care

All oiled floors are recommended to be thoroughly cleaned with “Easy Clean Oiled Flooring Natural Soap Cleaner” right after installation and as a regular cleaning regime.  As a result of this the surface will then be more hardwearing and be easier to clean and maintain in the future.

Normal cleaning to remove surface debris is accomplished using a broom and vacuum cleaner. In order to achieve the best cleaning possible use, “Easy Clean Oiled Flooring Natural Soap Cleaner” a highly concentrated soap for cleaning and maintenance of oiled wooden surfaces, suitable for flooring, furniture, kitchen surfaces, and all indoor wood.

 Instruction for use:

1. Shake thoroughly prior to use.

2. Always use two buckets: one – for the soap solution, the other – water for rinsing.

3. Mix approx. 250ml of the soap with 10L of warm water and apply a thin layer onto the flooring; particularly soiled areas should be cleaned with a brush or cloth first.

4. Rinse the cloth or mop in the second bucket and wipe the floor dry.

5. Water in the other bucket should be changed regularly so as to prevent spreading the already removed dirt back onto the floor.

6. Do not wipe the floor with pure water as the protective soya and coconut oils will be removed!

7. With each subsequent use of the soap, the floor will become less susceptible to soiling.

Coverage approx. 50-80 m2/l, Dependent on wood type.

Cleaning Extremely Dirty Floors

If the floor has been neglected and/or becomes very dirty, it should be cleaned using “Easy Clean Oiled Flooring Intensive Cleaner,” developed for deep penetration of the woods fibre, helping to lift the grain and encourage absorption of a new application of “Easy Clean Oiled Flooring Refresher.”

Instructions for use

Maintenance Oil Application

“Easy Clean Oiled Flooring Refresher,” for use on all oiled wooden surfaces.

Used once or twice a year, depending on the level of dirt, to restore and protect, if the floor has become dull and tired looking. It will help in everyday care and reinforces the floors resistance to dirt, and help to give it a new lease of life.

Instruction for use:

1. First clean the soiled surface with “Easy Clean Oiled Flooring Intensive Cleaner,” and leave to dry thoroughly for 4 to 8 hrs.

2. Apply a thin layer of “Easy Clean Oiled Flooring Refresher,” with a diffuser or a cloth and then rub manually or mechanically into the wood with a polishing machine until a smooth, silky-matt surface is revealed.

3. Make sure you leave no excess oil on the surface.

4. Within approx. 4 hrs. The floor may be walked on, though the full hardening time is 24 hrs. During which time the floor must not be cleaned with water and should be used sparingly and with care.

5. For future after care and routine cleaning  maintenance “Easy Clean Oiled Flooring Natural Soap Cleaner,” is then recommended.

6. Easy Clean Oiled Flooring Refresher is ready-to-use without diluting

Lots of large knots filled with mismatched filler. Looks like my daughter has spilled brown playdoh all over the floor. Awful appearance. Avoid at all costs!

Used on dining room living room and hall. Product wax good but some boards had too strong a colour and others were too pale and were not used. Guess that was a short coming of not having chosen pre selected boards. That said we were very pleased we the choice we made.

The Florence Engineered European Oak floor was used to cover a bedroom and bathroom area and placed on a chip-board sub floor over pre existing underfloor heating, with a cushioned waterproof underlay. \nThe quality of the flooring is excellent and the finished floor looks fabulous. It has given a stylish lift to our 500 year old converted barn. It was relatively easy to install, but I found you really had to hit the ends VERY hard with a wedge and mallet to get them to slide into the slot of the plank next to it. I got through two wedges and two metal end bars! \n \nThe floor took approximately 22 hours to lay due to the complicate area or the rooms which included cutting around partition walls.\nThe floor is comfortable to walk on and does not creek and flex like laminate floors can sometimes. I removed the skirting before laying the floor to get a better finish and to hide the expansion gaps.\nI am very pleased with the finished result and will definitely be purchasing more for other rooms in my house.
