Advantages of Terracotta Tiles

September 23rd, 2010

Question: I went to Mexico last week to stay in a friend?s house, and I?m just so amazed of their home. Everything is so colorful and bright that you would definitely feel comfortable just staying there. But if there?s one thing that really intrigued me is their floor. I asked my friend about it, and she said that they are terracotta tiles. Since I am going to be renovating my pad very soon, is it okay if I use them too? What other things am I going to get from these kinds of tiles? Let me know what you think. Thanks.

Answer: Wow, it seems like you really did have a blast, and that you have plenty of good memories with you, including those images of the terracotta tiles. Well, it?s not only you who loves it a lot. Every time I go to a Mexican restaurant, I never fail to be in awe on how these people can be so creative. Just to tell you a little about the floor. Terracotta tiles are actually made of clay. They will be under extreme heat in order for them to harden and be transformed into tiles. They are not only used in floors too. You can also find them in the walls, patios, pathways, and a lot more. There are also a lot of great benefits that you can look forward to with your terracotta tiles. First of all, you will love its uniqueness. If you happen to look closely into the floor, you will notice that they are not exactly the same. This is because heat will always have different effects on them. Some of them will be dark brown, others red, some are light as honey. You will also find terracotta tiles that contain designs or with patterns. They are hand made. Terracotta tiles are very strong. If you have just asked your friend, you will know that they never changed tiles. Terracottas can be likened to wine. They grow more beautiful, warm, and, most of all, durable as the years go by. However, there?s one thing you have to keep in mind. These types of tiles have tiny holes in them where water can go through and allow the moisture to build up. To make sure that your floor tiles will remain as ?healthy? as possible, put sealers in your terracottas. Nevertheless, terracotta tiles are very easy to maintain. You don?t need to constantly broom or vacuum the floor. As long as the sealer is still there, no water will cause the floor to stain. Moreover, the fact that they are used in the outdoors means that they can withstand almost all vicious natural elements. Let?s not forget that you have plenty of choices for your terracotta tiles that you can actually make use of them all over your home and nobody would know that they are of the same material. So you better start experimenting on the terracotta floors. For sure, wherever you?re going to use them, they will still stand out.
