Replacing antique floor boards
November 15th, 2011
Q: I would like to replace my existing antique pine floorboards (@1900) with solid hardwood flooring. Can I simply replace the floorboards with hardwood and install direct to the floor joists? Thanks
A: Yes, you could just replace the existing floor for new, but I would suggest you lay a plywood surface of a minimum 12mm first. This will enable you to place a vapour resistant membrane and give you a good opportunity to inspect your joists. A property from this period should always be inspected should you get the chance.
