Floating a solid wood floor
January 3rd, 2012
Q: We are laying solid oak, glued tongue and groove, floating flooring over concrete floor 26sqm area, dining room and reception hall joining. Would you suggest we lay a damp proof membrane and an underlay or do we buy from you a combined underlay?
A: It is not advisable to install a solid wood floor over the top of underlay. This would be known as a floating floor and is more commonly used with other types of flooring. However there are specially developed products which will allow you to use this method, such as our Fast Fit Peel and Stick Underlay (this can be found on our website by searching the product code: ACC-UN-FF-032). If you wish to use this then you will need 3 rolls of the product to cover the 26 metre area you mention.
