Can solid wood flooring be used in a bathroom?
January 4th, 2012
Q: I would like oak flooring in my bathroom. The bathroom is not the family bathroom and should not be wet excessively! To eliminate water stains will underfloor heating work? Would it be possible to prevent the moisture entering the wood if, once layed the floor is coated with yacht varnish?
A: I would not recommend the use of solid wood, engineered or laminate flooring in a bathroom or WC area.Although these are beautful floors they are all made from wood which is a natural material and absorbs water.Once a wooden floor has absorbed moisture it will swell and in a bathroom this is likely to lead to a buckled floor in many cases.
