Flooring advice

Q: I was intending to lay solid oak flooring to my kitchen extension but people have told me that engineered flooring would be better as we have bifold doors leading to garden and pets. They say that solid oak flooring can get warped if it gets wet regularly, which it probably will. Please advise.
A: An engineered floor is a better option with regards to the area you are intending to cover, due to its stability. The one thing all wood flooring is susceptible to is moisture as it is ?hygroscopic.? This can be described as, imagining a bundle of straws filled with water. They can only hold so much water before they swell and over flow, this is known a ?Saturation Point.? The use of inlaid mats and a good maintenance regime, will be of absolute importance to keep your new floor looking and wearing well.
