Cleaning oak floors
Q. What is the best advice for cleaning a newly laid oak floor?
Keeping carpets clean
A- Carpet stains are a fact of life. Glasses of wine, ketchup, mud, blood, porridge - you name it, sooner or later it obeys gravity and drops onto the floor.Of course, fresh stains are easy enough to clean up with a bit of soap and water in most cases, but when the surface is dirty and the stain is established more action is needed. For this reason, if you can manage to clean any spills and stains quickly this is highly advisable, but don't forget to vacuum frequently. Household dust may not be as immediately obvious as a stain, but 80 per cent of it is human skin and therefore it builds up simply by the room being inhabited. Having carpet shampoo or getting a professional cleaner round is an important thing to do occasionally when stains and dirt have built up.Finally, installing a good door mat to stop people walking dirt into the house is a pretty handy way of limiting the amount of muck that gets on the carpet in the first place.
