Carpet cleaners usually cost just a little bit more than a regular vacuum cleaner, but because they are normally not used as often as a vacuum cleaner, they do tend to last longer. When something does go wrong, you can often fix it without having to carry it to an appliance service center.
Belts are usually the most frequent parts that need replacing your Bissell. Luckily, they are almost always the easiest to fix.
Follow the steps below to fix your Bissell carpet cleaner when you need to replace your Bissell belt.
1. If the belt breaks while you are using your Bissell carpet cleaner, immediately turn the switch off and unplug the cleaner from the power source.
2. Wait a few minutes for the machine to cool, then empty all the tanks, and set them to one side.
3. Now, determine exactly which belt has broken.
4. Once you have figured out which belt it is, write down the model name and number of your U.S. or U.K. Bissell carpet cleaner (in this case, we’re talking about the Bissell ProHeat 2X Select). Having this information close at hand will help you determine what parts you will need to fix it.
5. Now, check for Bissell parts availability. You can do this by checking with a major retail outlet such as Wal-Mart (in the United Kingdom, it’s referred to ASDA Wal-Mart UK), or by checking with other places, such as hardware stores, or the appliance section of major department stores.
6. You can also look for parts by going to the Bissell website, US or UK, whichever one you need, or by checking your user manual or appliance repair services.

7.Once you have obtained the replacement belt, follow these installation instructions, others instructions can be found from Bissell and their Bissell help guides:
- Follow Steps 1 and 2 above.
- Take the front nozzle off; set it out of the way.
- Turn your Bissell carpet cleaner on its side with the electrical cord side facing down.
- Remove the two black screws holding the clear end cap on. Make sure you DO NOT let them fall into the unit.
- Remove one of the silver screws, so that you can remove the pivot arm.
- Take a moment to study how the belt fits onto the machine, then take it off, and replace it with the new belt.
- Reverse the three steps above, then set the machine upright.
- Replace all parts that you removed (the tanks and front nozzle).
- Refill the tanks, plug the machine back in, and check to see if it is working properly.
By this time, your Bissell machine should be working properly.
