How to Install Carpet Tiles
For many years, the four main options for floor coverings have always been hardwood, laminate, tile, or carpeting. Now, a new product that is out on the market called carpet tiles are increasing in popularity, and there are many reasons why. Carpet tiles can be purchased individually, so homeowners can mix and match colors, and design their own patterns on the floor. This gives any room a personalized look and feel. The tiles are also popular because they are very easy to install. If someone spills something on the carpet tile, it can easily be removed and replaced instead of the spill ruining the entire carpet. These tiles also make a great area rug, so college students can buy a few, configure them, and have an area rug for the room.
Once you’ve selected the carpet tiles of your choice, allow them to acclimate to the room at least overnight. This will let the material adjust to the current room temperature, which will make installing them easier, and they will adhere much better. Choose a clean, hard surface to apply the carpet tiles. If you have existing carpeting, this needs to be removed prior to installing the tiles. They can, however, be applied to existing laminate, tile, or other hard surfaces. Once the clean floor is prepped, it is time to install. Be sure you have all of the right tools in order to complete the job. Come up with a design for the floor and arrange the carpet tiles in the pattern you want. If you’re doing an entire room, you may want to sketch it out on a piece of paper and use that as a guide.
Using a chalk line, draw out the tiles and create a grid, so that installing them will be a breeze. There will be some tiles that will need to be cut, but a straight knife should do the trick. When ready, apply the tiles to the floor using adhesive or small carpet tacks. Some brands of carpet tiles have adhesives already attached to the underside of them, so it’s a matter of sticking the tiles directly to the floor. When ready, you can simply remove the backing and then apply the tiles. Once everything is even and secure, the furniture can be placed back in the room. Carpet tiles are a very easy way to redecorate a room and give it a flair all your own without having to pay extra for the labor of a traditional carpet installation.
