How to Install Vinyl Flooring: Glued Down - Vinyl Cushion Floor
Hiring professionals to install vinyl flooring can be expensive, and some prefer to do the job themselves to save money. Installing vinyl flooring is not a complicated job. With the right instructions, almost anybody can install a beautiful vinyl floor.
First, the room where the vinyl flooring will be installed has to be properly measured. The amount of vinyl bought should be 15% to 20% more than the total area of the room. A number of tools are needed for the installation as well, and these include: a floor scraper, a utility knife, a bucket, adhesive, adhesive trowel, a scrub brush, an adhesive removal, and a 75 to 100-pound roller.
The second thing to do is to remove the old flooring. After the flooring is removed, make sure the sub-floor is completely level, smooth, and dry. Then, take out the shoe molding from the wall. The vinyl flooring has to be laid out to cover the entire room, and it has to be cut with 3 inches excess on each side. The excess edges should curl up at the walls. Cut the excess vinyl from top to bottom at outside corners and make a V-shape cut at inside corners. Use a piece of wood to create a crease on the vinyl at the edge of the floor, and cut the flooring along the crease. A space of 1/8 inch should be left between the vinyl flooring and the wall, because the flooring will expand.
After the vinyl flooring is cut to the right size, the next thing to do is to install the flooring. Half of the vinyl flooring should be folded back first, and then, use an adhesive trowel to apply adhesive to the exposed sub-floor. The adhesive must be spread evenly on the entire floor. The adhesive has an approximate 15 minute set up time, therefore, it is important to work quickly; lay the flooring back on the floor and press it down firmly. Repeat the process to apply adhesive to the other half of the vinyl flooring. After that, roll the entire floor with the roller, starting from the center of the room and then moving to the perimeter. This will spread the adhesive evenly and create a flat surface. Excess adhesive can be cleaned off with adhesive removal. The flooring should not be washed for 3 days, and it should not be stepped on for at least 24 hours.
Furniture can be moved back into the room after 24 hours. It is important to exercise extra caution when moving furniture, because it can cause damage to the vinyl flooring.
