Bamboo flooring a part of newly-designed home
23rd March 2010
US-based former winemaker David Smith explained to the Register-Guard that he designs homes that are specifically designed for people who do not need an upstairs, will appreciate the mobility features as they get older and need to keep costs down.
This last aspect is partially achieved by making the homes green, with the bamboo flooring being accompanied by dual-flush toilets, solar water heaters, photovoltaic systems and paints that are low in volatile organic compounds.
Mr Smith explained that the homes are popular and fulfil a niche need, seldom being sold later than 30 days after their completion.
Another building with bamboo flooring installed is a yoga centre in the city of Sault in California, soonews reported last week.
The centre was due to open yesterday (March 22nd) and also includes green features like reusable mugs and low-solvent paints.
