Beware dishonest fitters
Homeowners have been warned about the unexpected dangers faced when having new carpets installed.
Komo News warned readers: “About the only thing worse than an old, worn out carpet is a brand new carpet that's poorly installed, coming loose at the seams, and a lot more expensive than what you expected.”
Although the majority of floor fitters are reputable individuals there are always the minority who don’t carry out the work as expected or charge more than they should.
The best advice is to do some research when looking for someone to fit a carpet, rather than choosing from the first advert you find.
Friends and relatives will often have recommendations and reputable fitters will often have reviews on websites.
It is also of great importance to find out what the price you are quoted will cover – many homeowners have taken advantage of what appears to be a great deal only to find hidden extras.
Some fitters quote one price but then add extra for removing the old carpet or clearing the subfloor prior to installation.
Searching the internet for customer reviews on fitters can save a lot of time and money when it comes to finding a fitter who will be upfront about cost and do a good quality job.
