Engineered Wood Floors

When choosing wood flooring the eco-friendly option to go for is an engineered floor.

People are choosing to be more environmentally conscious as society becomes more aware of the impact of certain products and actions have on the planet.

John-David Hutchison writes in Green Building Pro: “This manufacturing method results in a more efficient use of the most valued wood, stretching out the resource use while still satisfying the customer.”

This is because solid wood floors are produced using a single piece of timber for the whole plank, while engineered wood flooring comprises a top layer, made from the timber, and lower softwood layers.

The lower layers are often made from recycled materials which results in an even more environmentally friendly product.

While wood flooring is not the first thought for those looking for green floors, with engineered floors there is a more eco-friendly option with the same beautiful, stylish appearance.

For engineered wood floors with even greater environmental benefits it is a good idea to choose products made from locally sourced wood to cut the cost of transporting the goods.
