Floor renovations at US Senate

Floor renovations at US Senate

Flooring issues can affect anyone, even the US Senate where renovations to the floor nearly disrupted the legislative process.

Because of the high amount of foot fall within the chamber itself the flooring has had to been extremely hard-wearing but now the high use is taking its toll.

The carpet in the Senate, located in Washington, has been pulled up to expose the traditional solid wood flooring underneath.

Now work will continue to reinforce the floors to give increased strength to the floorboards in time for Senators to return from their summer break.

Fortunately a last minute reversal of a previous vote meant that senate didn’t have to hold a session in a large office building.

The work has meant entirely emptying the chamber of desks and is expected to take the full five weeks of the Senate summer break.
