Green points for gold rewards

Awards for recycling the most waste vinyl flooring in 2010 have been given to three companies for their ‘extreme commitment’ to the cause.

Hull Flooring, Ross Hughes Flooring and Mayfield Flooring each secured more than 50 points to receive the Gold Awards from Recofloor and a further 11 companies achieved silver status.

Recofloor was started in an attempt to prevent so much waste from vinyl floors being sent to landfill sites and the scheme collected over 200 tons in 2010, which far surpassed the 175 ton initial target.

Companies are eager to become a part of Recofloor in order to improve their green credentials while helping to prevent unnecessary wastage.

The organisation has over 250 members across the UK, ranging from floor fitters to major retail outlets and waste transfer stations.

Points are awarded on a ‘per pallet basis’ which allows smaller companies which are members of the scheme to be judged fairly on the percentage that they recycle.

Recofloor represents the huge steps taken by the flooring industry in recent years to ensure that environmental impacts are kept to a minimum.

As well as improving on waste management and recycling there are now more options of sustainable flooring than ever before and the Recofloor initiative is helping to make vinyl linoleum flooring a greener product.
