Innovative recycling scheme
Recycling flooring is of paramount importance and sustainability is fast becoming one of the more important things people look for when it comes to choosing flooring.
Several innovative schemes have been suggested as ways to recycle used flooring but one unusual way has been implemented in America.
As part of a large reconstruction of the library the unique glass floors were no longer needed but, rather than throw away the floor, the glass panels have been turned in to beautiful glass patio tables.
The glass panels were designed to be extremely strong to withhold the high levels of foot traffic in Milton Public Library, which makes the product ideal for use as a table.
In an interview with The Enterprise Marge Jeffries, a trustee at the library, said: “When it was evident that we were going to rip up the glass floors, I knew they were unique.”
The glass panels each had to be carefully removed from the floor before being cut to the desired size. For anyone hoping to get hold of a piece of the historic floor the tables will be sold at the library.
Many in the flooring industry will hope that this sort of unusual concept will motivate others to consider alternative ways of recycling or reusing old floors.
