Oak flooring choice 'depends on environment'

The internal environment of a home can determine what the best choice of oak floor is, a manufacturer of the material has said.

According to Oak Floors online, the issue hinges on whether a room where an oak floor will be located is subject to significant changes in heat and humidity.

It stated that where this is the case, engineered oak will hold together and avoid becoming misshapen, due to being strongly bonded.

However, it noted, when this is not so a solid oak offers a less expensive option.

The firm added that with engineered oak, the wood consists of a thin layer of the material placed on top of a plywood base.

Reclaimed oak is another option that can be used for wooden flooring.

An example of its use is that of Bruce Siska in East Hampton, US, who used the material to renovate his salt box home, as he explained to the East Hampton Star earlier this month.
