Solid wood warning
Consumers have been warned to carefully consider the amount of foot traffic in a room before committing to purchase wooden floors.
Although wood flooring is renowned for its strength and durability there are several different options and high foot traffic in any area must be considered before buying any flooring.
A consumer report has recommended that high-wear rooms would benefit from hardwood flooring, rather than engineered or even laminate options.
In tests solid wood floors are said to perform much better than even the top of the range engineered or laminate floors when installed in busy rooms.
These findings are likely to be the result of solid wood flooring being designed as an investment, which will then outlast other flooring varieties by many years.
However, the high level of foot traffic required to prove engineered or laminate flooring inadequate would have to be an extreme case.
The majority homeowners will be able to install an attractive engineered or laminate floor without any problems, although it is advisable to check that any product is suitable for an area before it is purchased.
