Success for vinyl recycling scheme
A popular vinyl recycling scheme is hoping to be able to announce that it beat last year’s overall figure by several hundred tonnes.
Recovinyl expect that by the end of this year, in just two and a half weeks, the company will have recycled more than 50,000 tonnes in 2011.
This shows the growing popularity for recycling and also allows vinyl to be seen as more of an eco friendly floor as it no longer has to end up in a landfill.
Vinyl floors are only one of many different PVC products the company recycles, with a number of different rigid and flexible PVC products which they will recycle.
Last year Recovinyl recycled 49,343 tonnes of used vinyl between the 26 recycling centres they have across the UK.
The firm are continuing to aim high, aiming for a massive 800,000 tonnes of vinyl to be reused across Europe by 2020.
There are also hopes that a certification process can be developed and put in to place to officialise the process and the finished product.
