Wood flooring 'good for pets'

Those who own pets and wish to gear up their homes accordingly can help themselves to do so by having wooden flooring, it has been suggested.

Such a tip was provided by the North West Herald, which said such a surface has the advantage of being moppable and therefore good for spillages, while pale colours should be used so scratches do not stand out.

Bamboo is also good for this purpose, as is tile, the paper noted.

Such tiling could include those made from cork as these are waterproof.

Carpet or carpet tiles were also listed as a potentially useful, particularly where scratching sounds may carry and cause a disturbance to neighbours.

In addition to this, any vinyl flooring used should be of a type that does not include volatile organic compounds, the article noted.

American fashion and interior designer Ben di Lisi wrote in the Guardian recently about how he installed a wooden floor in his new home in south London, noting that he owns three dogs.

Such a comment may suggest that he regarded the surface as ideal for the animals.
