Homeowners who want to spruce up their properties by adding some life to old hardwood flooring have been encouraged to invest in a rug.

Writing for the Star, editor-in-chief of Home Trends Magazine and celebrity interior designer Marc Atiyolil explained those who would like to redecorate on a tight budget should consider an area rug, which "will revitalise the look of your floors by covering up imperfections and bringing new colours into the space".

Furthermore, the expert stated adding a splash of colour to a neutral area of the property can often make a big difference and sometimes even alter the "entire look of the room".

Those who are inspired by Mr Atiyolil to purchase a new rug, may want to opt for the Innovation Rapids Black White product, which is made from 100 per cent heatseat frisee polypropylene.

It is also designed to last, easy to clean and comes in a pattern of alternating black and white curves.
