Avatar goes blue with carpet
17th December 2009
The hue was chosen to reflect the skin colour of some of the characters in the state-of-the art computer generated 3-D animation film, which has been hailed as groundbreaking for its modern technology.
Wednesday night's Hollywood premiere of the movie saw the likes of Sigourney Weaver, Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana, plus director James Cameron, swapping the normal red carpet for the unusual shade.
Last week, blue carpeting was also used in the West End of London for the world premiere of the film, which is Cameron's first feature-length production since Titanic, which also featured computer generated images.
The use of an unusual coloured carpet at a film event is nothing new.
Earlier this year, the Tokyo Film Festival had a green carpet to emphasise its eco-friendly theme, with the surface itself being made from recycled plastic bottles.
