Bamboo 'a smart choice' for kitchen flooring

Kitchen floors made from bamboo are increasingly being seen as the informed choice for those making home improvements, it has been observed.

As a construction material, it is both strong and durable - research showing that it can support up to 50,000 pounds of pressure per square inch - making it an excellent option for kitchens where things are often dropped on the floor, Cayman Net News notes.

It also does not expand and contract as much as other wood flooring, important for many homeowners who live in humid areas or where the temperature often fluctuates.

According to interior designer Joan Gaither, bamboo flooring has much less of an impact on the environment than other options. It is often the material of choice for those interested in sustainability and being eco-friendly as, once planted, it grows very quickly.

Most shoots reach maturity within four to five years and the remaining grass continues to form new plants after it has been harvested.
