Bamboo flooring a part of new apartments
3rd September 2010
The MDA City Apartments have a range of new amenities that make the recently-constructed residences highly desirable, reports the Chicago Sun.
Among them are bamboo floors, along with a number of other green features like a green roof and a heating and cooling system run on renewable energy, while bamboo and salvaged timber are used in the construction of common areas around the building.
The bamboo is used as flooring in the main living areas, with carpets being installed in the bedrooms.
Bamboo is seen as eco-friendly because it is harvested without killing the parent plant, being a kind of grass that can be cut and then grow back in the same way a lawn will after being mowed.
Another new residential development in the US involving bamboo flooring is the McKenzie Seeds building in Brandon, the Brandon Sun reports.
The structure has many green features and developer Trevor Broad described this as "the right thing to do".
