Bamboo flooring part of low-cost green home
13th July 2010
Eco-site Tree Hugger quoted Designboom magazine's description of it as being a Passivhaus, a home that self-heats and does not need external sources to provide warmth.
In this case the home had achieved such an aim to the extent of being 90 per cent independent of outside energy resources, with extensive insulation being a key factor.
The summary of the features continued: "Recycled paper windowsills and countertops, bamboo flooring and concrete thermal mass floor complement the clean white interior walls and ceiling."
Bamboo flooring is regarded as a green material due to being a grass that can be cut from its parent plant without killing the root system, meaning it can re-grow and be harvested again a few years later.
Earlier this month, the Dallas Morning News featured the Get Yogafied, where owners Shana Stein and Kimberly Ames used bamboo flooring in as part of their effort to make it as green as possible.
