Bamboo is one of the best options for those seeking to install an eco-friendly floor, an expert has said.
Angie Hicks of Angies List told ABC News5.com bamboo flooring is a sustainable and self-replenishing material due to the fact that it can be harvested every six or so years from its parent plant.
Qualities of the product include durability, the capacity to withstand humidity well, is stronger than other hardwoods and also tends to be cheaper.
Angie advised it is vital to allow bamboo flooring three days to acclimatise before it is installed to allow it to perform at its best.
She also tipped materials like cork and wool for carpeting as good choices because they are sustainable and naturally regenerating materials.
Rachel Morgan of Canadian firm Cornwall Discount Carpet told the Montreal Gazette last month one reason bamboo can be regarded as green is that it grows so much faster than other materials, developing at eight times the speed of redwood trees.
