Bamboo flooring with Ming magic
8th November 2010
It is made from 14 mm thick planks of strand woven bamboo, in which the individual fibres are split and boiled to take out the sugar, before being bound and pressed together with a low-VOC compound.
This is designed to create a very durable material with around twice the density of normal bamboo.
With the caramelisation providing a draker shade than the natural blonde, the product has colour variations including pale, brown and black streaks in a series of lines all running in the same direction.
Such a combination may be very attractive to householders, who can enjoy the reassurance of a 30-year warranty on the floor.
Other items in the Ming Dynasty bamboo flooring range include the Solid Strand Woven Natural, which is not caramelised and is thus a much lighter colour, while still containing many markings.
