Bangladesh government promotes traditional carpet-making
The government of Bangladesh has instigated a new policy aimed at boosting its traditional carpet-making industry.

It has established a project in what is known as a sataranji village in the Nishbetganj, Rangpur district of the country, Fibre2Fashion reports.

This will house 116 families who produce the traditional carpets, which are woven into patterns of many colours, with the term sataranji being the name of the method they use to make the products.

Wall and floor mats, plus bedcovers are also included in the output of the weavers.

In total, setting up the project in the village has cost the Bangladeshi government Taka 10 million (£97,000).

Another long-standing carpet tradition in Asia is now being given wide exposure in China.

The Tibetan carpet industry's wares have been on display since June 20th in an exhibition in the city of Xining, the People's Daily Online stated.

It noted that this is the sixth such event and over the years it has increased in size, showcasing not just other carpets but also other crafts from the region.
