Bonuses reward vinyl flooring firm success

Directors of a vinyl flooring firm have remarked on the profitability of the firm in the recession.

James Halstead's annual accounts showed today that this year brought record income of £169.3 million and profits of £33 million, compared with figures of £158.7 million and £29.9 million last year.

Chairman Graham Halstead remarked that the company's vinyl flooring operations overseas have seen a number of big projects taking place, including the Bayern Munich Allianz Arena and the Commonwealth Games stadium in Mumbai, India.

Another project nearer home was the Globe Inn, frequented by poet Robert Burns and site of the first Burns supper.

He commented: "The focus on value for money brings resilient vinyl floor coverings increasingly to the forefront of the short list of suppliers prepared by specifiers."

Another vinyl flooring company with cause for optimism is Design Materials of Pasadena, California.

Last week, the firm announced plans to expand its sales operations into southern California, Arizona and New Mexico.
