Boost for carpet market
A new report has predicted a surge in the popularity of carpets will occur during this coming year.
Although carpets have always been a reliable and traditional choice for anyone looking to buy flooring, contemporary fashion has moved towards solid wood and engineered flooring.
Contract Flooring Journal, said: “Carpets will continue to face pressure from alternative smooth floor coverings, including engineered and solid wood, vinyl and ceramic tiles.
“However, demand for residential carpets is expected to benefit from the current fashion trend in interiors towards more textured fabrics and patterns.”
This new report reflects the shift in attitudes, although the report does state that the change is likely to be small, at least to begin with.
It is expected that the growth in the carpet market will mirror the growth in the housing market, which is also predicted to improve over the year.
The report by MBD states that the current dip in the carpet market could well be coming to an end in 2011.
Although this is far from certain the rise in new-build houses will support the growth as carpets are a popular choice to make new homes look welcoming as well as providing added insulation.
