Carpet choice 'depends on use'

Carpet choice 'depends on use'

The sort of carpet people should buy depends on how it is likely to be used, an expert has said.

An article on the subject by the Yamhill Valley News Register quoted Brent Johnson, a local carpet store owner, stating: "If it's going to be in the main part of the house, where there's a lot of traffic, you have kids, you like to entertain, probably you want a higher-end carpet."

In contrast, homeowners without children - such as a retired couple with only occasional visits - many not need to spend as much on their carpet as it will get less wear and tear, he suggested.

However, good maintenance is always the key to ensuring a carpet stays in good condition for as long as possible, Mr Johnson noted.

Those who are fitting a new carpet may note that wall-to-wall carpeting is coming back into fashion, according to director of Adrienne Chinn Design Company Limited Adrienne Chinn.

She said this style is becoming popular again after being out of favour over the last 15 years.
