Carpet demand may rise after Cumbria floods
23rd November 2009
According to the Association of British insurers (ABI), some carpet types will not have withstood the effects of homes being inundated with water.
The ABI said those who have to throw out carpets should take pictures to provide visual evidence and cut off and keep samples of them for the same reason.
Those who are covered by home insurance will be able to claim for such items, which could mean new carpets being restored after their homes are cleaned up and repaired.
Cumbria has been particularly badly affected by the rains of previous days, with people evacuated from parts of the town of Cockermouth, just outside the Lake District.
The town stands at the meeting point of the Cocker and Derwent rivers, with the latter being swelled by water flowing down from Borrowdale, where Seathwaite, Britain's wettest location, saw a record 24 hours rainfall last week of 314.4 mm.
