Carpet designers see finished product
23rd March 2010
The group of 20 pupils at Wanstead High School in east London were inspired by seeing a display of Islamic art and crafts at the Victoria and Albert Museum in the summer and set about designing their own version, the Wanstead and Woodford Guardian reports.
Head of art at the school Antony Yiacoumi picked the winning design and the actual making of the carpet was carried out by 14-year-old Mohammed Sadiq, a former refugee who now lives back in Kabul and is involved with charity Afghan Action.
Last month, it was revealed that Afghan carpets have been featured at the House of Commons.
A Daily Express report noted that a display of the products was one of the uses that the entertaining rooms at the Palace of Westminster have been put to.
