3rd November 2009
The company has undertaken the move in response to growing demand in the country and across the sub-Saharan Africa region, Business Day Online reports.
Managing director Mohit Manglani stated that the machinery in the plant will be the first of its kind operating in West Africa.
He remarked: "We are very excited about this project, as we are the first company to produce woven carpets and rugs in the whole sub-Saharan region."
Mr Manglani added that there is "great scope" to expand exports of the carpets produced by the firm, with 300 jobs due to be created by the extra production capacity.
In further carpet news from Africa, the Tunisian government has established a Technical Innovation and Renewal Centre to help carpet makers access the latest technology, such as design software, fibre2fashion.com reports.
