Carpet not recommended for allergy sufferers

Allergy sufferers have been advised to avoid using carpet in their homes as the allergens trapped in this flooring can trigger an attack.

Allergens are present throughout the home anyway but it can reduce the number and severity of allergy attacks experienced if the home is kept as clean as possible.

It is much easier to keep wood flooring and laminate or vinyl floors clear of allergens as they can be cleaned more thoroughly and effectively.

It is also easy to see when there is a built up of dust or dirt, as carpet can disguise this to an extent within the pile.

There are many steps which can be taken to limit the likelihood of an allergy attack and every sufferer is different and will be triggered by different things.

Installing wood flooring or laminate floors in bedrooms is a great idea because spending long periods of time in a carpeted room is likely to cause an allergy to flare up.

However this doesn’t mean that allergy sufferers can’t have carpet, as long as it is cleaned thoroughly on a regular basis then there shouldn’t be too many problems.

It is most sensible to limit carpet to some rooms, not all, and choose wood, laminate or vinyl flooring for other areas.
