Cash injection will see builders return to work, expert says

The government's plan to restart a number of stalled housing developments across England has been welcomed by the Home Builders Federation.

Steve Turner, head of communications at the organisation, noted that the move is likely to allow many people in the sector to return to work.

He explained that ministers seem keen to have work underway as soon as possible, as part of the criteria for inclusion on a shortlist for funding was that sites would have to be finished by the end of the next financial year.

"It now just depends on how quickly the process takes to get that cash to the builders, but the sites are by definition ready to go anyway," said Mr Turner.

Announcing the shortlist this week, housing minister John Healey explained that 270 projects are in line to receive a cash injection, with the £925 million being provided expected to create 20,000 jobs.
