Cork flooring a part of award-winning building

A building in the US has been given an environmental accreditation for its new office in the city of Roanoke, with cork flooring being one of the features.

Office services company Aecom gained Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) silver certification for its commercial interior alongside Level 3 certification from the Cool Green Biz programme, Fire Engineering reports.

It has renewable cork flooring as well as LEED-certificated carpet on its floors, while other green aspects include energy-efficient lighting and low-energy electrical appliances.

The firm is a part of Roanoke's Clean and Green Business Coalition.

Another building to feature cork flooring is so new it has not yet opened.

Franklin Woods Community Hospital in Tennessee will open next month and 2,000 people have been for a tour of the site, Tri-Cities.com reports.

Built at a cost of $126 million (£84 million), the facility will be the first hospital in the state designed with a green theme and is to replace two old hospitals nearby.
