Cork flooring is part of a new winery has been opened in the US state of Oregon.

Willamette Valley Vineyards is opening an outlet in McMinnville, in the heart of the state's winelands, to overcome the fact that its own grapes are grown to the south, away from the beaten track, Oregon Live reports.

The news provider describes cork flooring as one of the "distinctive features" of the centre and notes that this is in place throughout the premises.

Cork will be recycled at the centre, which may help emphasise the eco-friendly and sustainable nature of the substance as a flooring material and for other uses.

Wineries and restaurants will make use of the corks, which could include installing it as flooring.

Cork has been described as having a number of attributes as a flooring material, including its ability to retain heat.

Interior designer Janette Seney told the Argus Leader this week that installing cork flooring could mean an end to cold feet in winter.
