A refurbished eatery includes cork flooring among its new features, it has been noted.

In a review of the Saffron restaurant for the Santa Rosa Press Democrat in California, food writer Jeff Cox revealed that the feature is one of a number of elements added by owner and chef Christopher Dever.

Mr Dever bought the establishment in 2000 and installed the flooring alongside a number of other features after discovering when seeking to replace water-damaged boards that a large-scale renovation was needed.

The foundation, walls and facade all had to be replaced as well as the floors.

Another place using cork in its floor is a new winery outlet in the US state of Oregon.

The material has been incorporated into the Willamette Valley Vineyards centre in the state, which is located nearer the heart of the winelands than the actual vineyard itself is.

It also features a cork recycling centre, which could see much of the material being used as cork flooring elsewhere.
