Cork flooring has been recommended as an ideal choice for homeowners who spend a lot of time in the kitchen.

Rose Bennett Gilbert advised readers of the San Fernando Valley Sun that the material has a range of advantages.

Despite being a natural product, the expert explained that modern technology has given it even more charm.

Cork flooring, she noted, is both comfortable and quiet, as well as being a durable choice for the kitchen.

Homeowners were also advised that can be "decorative", with checkerboard designs among the options available.

The comments come after experts at the UK Flooring Direct blog noted that a range of techniques are now available that can create unique looks for cork flooring.

Among these is heating the material so that sugar in the bark caramelises - a process that was compared to warming sugar in a pan on a stove - which can produce colours from dark red to royal blue.
