Cork flooring 'increasingly popular'

Cork flooring has been taking North America by storm, it has been claimed.

In an article for the Niagara Falls Review posted by News Canada, flooring firm Torlys noted that cork's "resilience, durability and surprisingly versatile, attractive designs" have made it popular in Europe for centuries.

These qualities are causing it to take North America "by storm", it added.

According to the article, cork is particularly well suited to kitchens, because it is comfortable and strong, as well as fire resistant.

Further attributes of the material noted were cork's ability to muffle sound and its "hypo-allergenic" qualities.

It suggested that cork makes for a material that "reinvigorates any home" as well as being a renewable resource.

The green aspect of cork was emphasised in a blog earlier this week.

Wisconsin-based Eco Friendly Flooring wrote for greenopilis.com that cork's sustainability lies in its nature as a form of bark that can be stripped from its parent tree every few years and then grow back.
