Cork flooring part of museum renovation

Cork flooring is a feature of the renovation of a museum in the US, which may indicate the capacity of the material to be used for flooring in commercial premises.

The Amon Crater Museum of American Art has revealed the material is a part of the new refurbishment of the museum store premises, which it has now completed.

In addition to the flooring, it has installed teak accents and a new cafe area, while the eco-friendly element of cork is complemented by the sale of a number of green items in the store.

Among these are wine cork stoppers, the more traditional and familiar use of the renewable and sustainable material, which is harvested by stripping the bark of the cork tree, a process that is harmless to the plant which simply grows it back over the following few years.

The US is currently the target of a campaign by the Portuguese Cork Association to showcase the virtues of the substance as a flooring material.

It is touring around 14 cities in the US and Canada with a roadshow allowing the public a close-up of such flooring, with the first show taking place last week in New York.
