Cork flooring plan for green apartments
22nd April 2010
The Macon campus of Mercer University in Georgia is the subject of a $10 million (£6.5 million) mixed-use development, in which there will be new apartments as well as space for various businesses, macon.com reports.
All the apartments will have cork flooring installed as part of a plan to ensure they are as eco-friendly as possible, with other features including granite kitchen counter tops and full furnishings.
These three and four-bedroom residential units will provide space for 117 students on the top three floors of the building, while numerous retailers have already been lined up to open outlets in the ground floor sections.
Founded in 1833, Mercer University has three campuses overall, with the other two being in Savannah and Atlanta.
The Macon campus has been in existence since 1871, when the institution moved its base from the town of Penfield.
