Cork tipped as great floor insulator

Cork flooring has been hailed as one of the best ways of insulating a floor against heat loss.

In a feature on the topic, the Daily Telegraph noted that the issue of insulation in the home includes floors as well as aspects that gain more attention, such as walls, roofs and windows.

Green expert Sarah Lonsdale wrote in the paper that one solution is to use cork flooring, as it has very strong insulating qualities.

She said that both cork and lino flooring are biodegradable and do not retain the sort of materials that cause suffering for those with allergies.

"They have both come a long way since the 70s in terms of colour and designs," Ms Lonsdale added.

Last month, blogger Jim Simcoe wrote in Bigger Pockets that cork's insulating qualities are one of its attributes, alongside other aspects such as its origin from a renewable source and comfort underfoot.
