Crucible carpet appears on cue

The Crucible theatre in Sheffield has had a new carpet fitted after undergoing a lengthy refurbishment process.

Best known for its green baize as the home of the world snooker championships, the Yorkshire venue has been closed for the past two years but has opened with a range of new features, including different carpets in the theatre itself and the foyer, the Independent noted.

The paper, which was reviewing the first play to be shown at the city centre auditorium since the £15 million refurbishment, noted there has also been changes to the stage, while the "twinkly light" ceiling has been kept.

It was giving an assessment of Christopher Hampton's production An Enemy of the People.

Another building being closed for refurbishments including new carpets is Holborn library in central London.

Last week, Camden Council said the facility would be closed for two weeks in March, with the carpet installation being carried out alongside the addition of new user facilities.
