Duties imposed on imported floors
A preliminary decision has been made in the Chinese engineered flooring case and the U.S. Commerce Department has announced that it will add duties on to the imported products.
This news will be a relief to a number of U.S. flooring firms which petitioned for the duties to be added after discovering the negative impact that the imported products were having on the American market.
The extra cost is being applied to these engineered floors to compensate for the government subsidisation that they allegedly received.
There were still a number of companies which did not have the duties imposed because there was no evidence of them gaining any benefits from government subsidy.
Subsidisation from the government has meant that the products can be imported to the U.S. and sold at much lower prices, which has had a direct impact on American manufacturers.
The case is still continuing as the decision about imposing antidumping duties on the Chinese companies has not been made yet and will not be expected until some time in May.
These countervailing duties won’t be brought in to effect, however, until the final decision in the case has been made by the U.S. Commerce Department.
