Famous white carpet up for grabs

Music fans have been offered the chance to grab a piece of the action at the MTV Music Awards - or at least the carpet it is staged on.

A white carpet rather than the traditional red will be used for the ceremony at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles this coming Saturday (September 11th) and organisers are running a competition in which fans can win a piece of it.

The organisers stated: "Anybody who wants to walk in the literal footsteps of their favourite stars is in luck, because we're going to chop up the carpet and give away ten pieces of it!"

It is inviting people to sign up for the draw on the MTV Awards Facebook page.

Another carpet becoming famous in the US is the new one being installed in the White House Oval Office by President Obama.

It contains a written quote attributed to Martin Luther King, but it has turned out the words were in fact spoken by 19th century anti-slavery campaigner Theodore Parker.
