A flooring firm in Texas has given old hardwood floors a second lease of life thanks to a unique salvaging project.
Pat Hicks of New Life Hardwood commented to the Dallas Morning News that there is value in all types of wood flooring.
His firm salvages wooden floors from disused churches, barns and homes, which is then used to create new tongue-and-groove floors.
"It's disrespecting God when you take the lumber from trees that were 400 years old and throw it away," he commented, adding that there are plenty of places to find wood that can be reclaimed.
Mr Hicks added that reclaimed flooring can often be a sturdier choice than newer hardwood options, which can be soft by comparison.
Furthermore, he added, the price of reclaimed flooring is competitive with using new materials and the surface can provide long-term quality and value.
Real wood floors were identified by the Mirror earlier this month as an ideal surface for homeowners looking to re-create a retro feel in their property.
