To recover from the economic slump of the recession Carpetright have decided to focus on bed sales in the hope of restoring sales figures.

Profits are thought to be lower than anticipated for the carpet stores’ third quarter according to a trading update, however many other stores are also suffering.

The drop is blamed on consumers choosing to hunt out a bargain rather than investing in high quality products.

This is seen across the flooring sector where sales of laminate flooring are reported to be on the rise as a ‘value’ floor, while traditional hardwood options are not homeowner’s first choice anymore.

Several Carpetright stores have had to close recently as times get harder for the company but the firm does have a plan to stabilise the sales figures.

Heightened focus on the bed market will hopefully pull the business out of the slump and a new management team are being brought in.

New staff and a new product focus are expected to renew the business and lift the number of customers visiting the stores as well as the profits.

The store will continue with the recent laminate flooring range, which is addressing customers’ requirements for ‘value flooring’.
