Flooring underlay maker adds new jobs

A flooring underlay firm based in the US has announced that it is to expand one of its plants with the addition of 35 jobs.

QEP is to create the new employment at its Montpelier facility in Blackford County, Indiana.

The jobs will be created over the next 18 months but the firm has said it has already begun the interviewing process.

Executive director of the Blackford County Economic Development Corporation Rob Cleveland, said: "Since coming to Blackford County, QEP has actively worked to expand the Montpelier plant."

As well as flooring underlays, the company produces a variety of tools, including scrapers, tile cutters and safety equipment.

The expansion at QEP may suggest that the flooring industry as a whole is picking up, meaning accessories will be in greater demand in the near future.

Last month, QEP revealed that it had recorded record net sales in the first three months of the 2010-11 fiscal year at $60.6 million (£38.8 million), compared with $50.7 million for the equivalent period last year.
